Franco-German coproduction that has two versions distributed in different cinemas. The film premiered in France in 1979 it is called ‘On est venu là pour s’éclater’ and the one released in Germany the same year is ‘Hot Dogs auf Ibiza’. Both versions have similar technical and artistic team, but unlike the French copy, in the German film credits there are included writers, composers and editors of the two nationalities.
Possibly it was first filmed ‘On est venu là pour s’éclater’, the filming and the set took place in the Republic of Mauritius, in the Indian Ocean. For ‘Hot Dogs auf Ibiza’, whose story is set in the Mediterranean island, a series of additional planes in Ibiza, which were later mounted together with the ones made in Mauritius. Finally, during the dubbing into German the name of a town was changed to another. This commercial strategy was related with the market each film was set off: The Republic of Mauritius had been a French colony, while in Ibiza, at the end of the decade of the seventies, the German tourists was one of the main visitors.
The scenes of the movie were shot in the island and include pictures of the Es Codolar airport and Vila. In some scenes, we can see the actress Ursula Buchfellner walking around the city, getting a T-shirt with the name of Ibiza and eating a hot dog. These plans only appear in the German version and the same happens with the soundtrack, composed by Gerhard Heinz with the Spanish guitar as a protagonist. Other scenes were also filmed in Platja d’en Bossa with the intention of promoting the film.
Some of the scenes that were filmed on the island for ‘Hot Dogs auf Ibiza’, including the ones filmed in Platja d’en Bossa, also appear in the pornographic film ‘Ibiza Love’ produced by Mike Hunter and possibly directed by Jean Luret at the end of the decade of the seventies.
