‘La Revolució Turística’ is a remarkable documentary on the tourism industry in Ibiza and Formentera, covering 80 years of its history. This documentary was made possible thanks to the private initiative of Cordoba brothers Pablo and Rafael Alcántara, based in Ibiza since the early eighties. Between 2011 and 2014, they conducted more than seventy interviews with representatives of culture, politics and trade of the islands, offering a wide and extensive insight on tourism, the main economic engine of Ibiza and Formentera.
The documentary, narrated by Ibizian actress Tita Planells, was shot in the Pitiusan islands, Madrid and Barcelona. The film had budget of over 184,000 euros available and production has coordinated by local company Pauxa, founded by Pablo Alcántara in 2005, which has also produced short films such as ‘Neighbour’ (2012), directed by Héctor Escandell and the video-clip of the Ibizan group Rels ‘La princesa i el plebeu’ (2013), among other audiovisual works.
One of the great successes of ‘La Revolució Turística’, is the insertion of several shots from the films ‘Law of the Sea’ (1951), ‘‘La larga agonía de los peces fuera del agua’ (1971) and ‘F for Fake’ (1973 ), films that were shot in the islands, and that in the documentary serve the purpose to contextualize historically certain events. Also, in the project there are a lot of pictures, some subjected digitization and colorization to link the past of the islands with the present, highlighting the abrupt changes of the landscape that Ibiza and Formentera have undergone over the past decades.
‘La Revolució Turística’ has taken part in the prestigious International Documentary Film Festival of Uruguay, Atlantidoc in 2014 and has been broadcasted on television channel Balearic IB3.
