The Ibiza You Don’t See on Postcards: The Secret Locations Where Movies Are Filmed

Ibiza is world-renowned for its beaches, its light, and its sunsets. But what many people don’t know is that this is only part of the story.

Beyond its image as a tourist destination, the island hides a surprising variety of locations that make it a true natural film set for movies, television, and advertising. Places that don’t appear on postcards… but do appear on screen.

In just a few kilometers, Ibiza takes you from almost lunar landscapes to Mediterranean forests, from rural roads to industrial settings, and from rugged cliffs to villages steeped in tradition. This diversity, which is rare among island destinations, is one of its major attractions for the audiovisual industry.

Quarries and rock formations offer striking and unfamiliar landscapes. Secondary roads and rural paths lend a sense of authenticity and isolation. Traditional rural architecture, with its simple, white structures, remains one of the most powerful symbols of Ibizan identity.

But there’s more. The lesser-known stretches of the coastline, the urban areas, and the port district offer contrasts that further broaden the narrative scope. Ibiza isn’t just one island—it’s many islands within a single location.

This versatility allows production teams to create multiple worlds without the need for extensive travel, thereby optimizing time and resources—a key factor in today’s film shoots.

The Ibiza that doesn’t appear on postcards is, in fact, the one that adds the most value to the audiovisual medium: the most unexpected, the most versatile, and the most cinematic.
